4th Annual Run for Rwanda
International 5k Run/Walk
"Stride for stride, side by side"
Saturday, August 6, 2011
Cottonwood Creek Park, Colorado Springs, CO
Kibali, Rwanda (Central Africa)
Thank you to all Run for Rwanda participants, sponsors, and volunteers for making today's race another success. More than 330 runners and walkers registered for the Colorado Springs race, and more than 160 ran in Kibali, Rwanda. (Click on the links below to view results and photos.)
Fundraising:
Preliminary numbers indicate the event cleared more than $12,000. Of this, $2,400 will fund secondary school scholarships for Kibali youth who otherwise could not afford to attend school, $1,500 will purchase livestock for needy Kibali families, and the remainder will go toward ongoing construction of the Kibali Health Clinic, which before this year's run was an estimated $65,000 from completion).
Race results:
The Colorado Springs race included several high school cross country teams, barefoot runners, and participants in the RFR's first water jug challenge (a pair of runners carried a full, six-gallon water jug the entire race distance, in a category designe to simulate the trek many Kibali children make every day to supply their family's water needs).
If you won an age-group or other award for today's race but were unable to stay for the awards ceremony, you can pick up your award at the Boulder Running Co. (3659 Austin Bluffs Pkwy # 32) anytime during normal business hours.
